Un nom au singulier parle d’une seule personne, d’un seul animal ou d’une seule chose. Un nom au pluriel parle de plusieurs personnes, de plusieurs animaux ou de plusieurs choses. En français, le nombre du nom se voit avec le déterminant et souvent avec la fin du nom.
A noun in the singular refers to a single person, a single animal, or a single thing. A noun in the plural refers to several people, several animals, or several things. In French, the number of a noun is shown by the determiner and often by the ending of the noun.
Le déterminant montre le nombre du nom. Au singulier, on emploie par exemple le, la, un ou une. Au pluriel, on emploie les ou des. Le déterminant et le nom ont le même nombre.
The determiner shows the number of the noun. In the singular, for example le, la, un, or une are used. In the plural, les or des are used. The determiner and the noun have the same number.

Le pluriel de beaucoup de noms se forme avec un s. Le nom reste souvent presque identique à l’écrit. Le déterminant change aussi pour montrer le pluriel.

Certains noms ne changent pas de forme entre le singulier et le pluriel. C’est souvent le déterminant qui montre la différence. Le nombre se lit donc avec tout le groupe nominal.
