Locative adverbs tell where something or someone is. They specify a place or position. In a sentence they often appear with the verb or after the verb. They answer the question Where?

Hier, da und dort zeigen nicht immer genau die gleiche Entfernung. Oft ist hier sehr nah. Dort ist oft weiter weg. Da kann in der Standardsprache zwischen hier und dort liegen, aber in vielen Regionen benutzen Menschen da auch fast wie hier oder dort.

Ortsadverbien können einen festen Ort zeigen. Einige Ortsadverbien können auch mit Verben der Bewegung stehen und dann ein Ziel oder eine Richtung ausdrücken. Das ist im Alltag oft klar durch das Verb. Die gleiche Form kann also Ort oder Richtung meinen.

Im einfachen Satz steht das Ortsadverb oft im Mittelfeld. Es kann auch am Satzanfang stehen. Dann steht das Verb direkt danach. Die Stellung ist also flexibel, aber die Position vor oder nach dem Verb ist nicht in jedem Satz gleich.
In a simple sentence, the locative adverb often sits in the middle. It can also appear at the beginning of the sentence. Then the verb comes directly after it. The position is thus flexible, but the position before or after the verb is not the same in every sentence.
