Im Deutschen passen Buchstaben und Laute oft zusammen, aber nicht immer genau. Vokale sind a, e, i, o und u. Konsonanten sind zum Beispiel b, d, f, k, l, m, n, p, r, s, t und z. Diphthonge sind zwei Vokale zusammen und sie bilden einen Laut.
In German, letters and sounds often go together, but not always exactly. Vowels are a, e, i, o, and u. Consonants include, for example, b, d, f, k, l, m, n, p, r, s, t, and z. Diphthongs are two vowels together and they form one sound.
Deutsche Vokale können kurz oder lang sein. Ein langer Vokal klingt gedehnt. Ein kurzer Vokal klingt kurz und knapp. Die Länge verändert die Aussprache des Wortes.
German vowels can be short or long. A long vowel sounds stretched. A short vowel sounds short and crisp. The length changes the pronunciation of the word.

Die Umlaute sind ä, ö und ü. Sie sind eigene Vokale im Deutschen. Ä klingt ähnlich wie e. Ö und ü sprechen die Lippen rund aus.

Konsonanten entstehen mit einer Sperre oder Enge im Mund. Häufige deutsche Konsonantenlaute sind b, d, g, f, h, k, l, m, n, p, r, s, sch, t, w und z. Einige Konsonanten bestehen aus einem Buchstaben, andere aus zwei oder drei Buchstaben.

Diphthonge verbinden zwei Vokale zu einem Laut. Im Deutschen sind ei, au und eu sehr häufig. Der Mund bewegt sich dabei von einem Vokal zum anderen.
Diphthongs connect two vowels into one sound. In German, ei, au and eu are very common. The mouth moves from one vowel to the other.

Ein Laut kann durch einen Buchstaben oder durch mehrere Buchstaben geschrieben werden. So gehört sch zu einem Laut, und ei gehört auch zu einem Laut. Lernende können jetzt deutsche Vokale, Umlaute, wichtige Konsonanten und häufige Diphthonge erkennen und korrekt aussprechen.
