Qué son

Los pronombres demostrativos señalan personas o cosas según la distancia. Sustituyen al sustantivo, así que no aparece el nombre. En español, las formas principales son este, ese y aquel, con cambios de género y número.

Distancia

Este habla de algo cercano a la persona que habla. Ese suele hablar de algo a distancia media o cerca de la persona que escucha. Aquel habla de algo lejano. En algunas regiones o contextos, la diferencia entre ese y aquel puede variar en matiz o en frecuencia de uso.

This refers to something close to the speaker. That refers to something at a medium distance or not as close to the listener. That far away refers to something distant. In some regions or contexts, the difference between the medium-distance and far-distance demonstratives can vary in nuance or frequency of use.

Formas

Los pronombres demostrativos cambian por género y por número. Hay formas masculinas, femeninas y neutras. Las formas neutras no tienen plural y se usan para ideas, situaciones o cosas no identificadas con un nombre concreto.

Neutros

Esto, eso y aquello son pronombres demostrativos neutros. No sustituyen a un sustantivo con género masculino o femenino ya conocido. Se usan para hablar de una idea, una acción, una situación o algo que no se nombra todavía.

This, that and that over there are neuter demonstrative pronouns. They do not substitute a noun with a known masculine or feminine gender. They are used to talk about an idea, an action, a situation, or something that is not named yet.

Pronombre y adjetivo
