What They Are
Subject pronouns are words that replace nouns as the subject of a sentence. They show who or what does the action. Subject pronouns come before the main verb in a simple sentence.
The Pronouns
English has seven subject pronouns. We use them for the speaker, the listener, people, animals, and things.
Singular Plural
Some subject pronouns are singular, and some are plural. Singular means one. Plural means more than one.
Who It Shows
Subject pronouns show who does the action in a sentence. I and we show the speaker. You shows the listener. He, she, it, and they show another person, animal, thing, or idea.
Before The Verb
A subject pronoun usually comes before the main verb in a simple sentence. It takes the place of the noun that does the action. This position shows the subject clearly.
