Qué expresan

Los adverbios superlativos señalan el grado más alto de intensidad de una acción, de una manera de hacer algo o de otra cualidad expresada de forma adverbial. Superlative adverbs indicate the highest degree of intensity of an action, of a way of doing something, or of another quality expressed adverbially. They can indicate an absolute value, when the intensity is presented as very high without an explicit comparison, or a relative value, when it appears within a comparison with more or less. In some contexts, the difference between a superlative value and an emphatic value is not entirely fixed, and interpretation depends on the meaning of the sentence.

Suele formarse con adverbios o locuciones intensificadoras como muy, muchísimo, sumamente y extremadamente. Estas formas modifican al verbo, a un adjetivo usado de manera predicativa o a otro adverbio, según la estructura de la oración.

The absolute superlative in adverbial function intensifies an action without directly comparing it with other cases. It is usually formed with adverbs or intensifying phrases such as very, very much, highly, and extremely. Superlativo relativo

El superlativo relativo en uso adverbial presenta una acción o manera de actuar como la más alta o la más baja dentro de un grupo. Se construye con más o menos y normalmente incluye una referencia al conjunto con artículos, relativos o complementos. En estas estructuras, el adverbio forma parte de una comparación ordenada entre varias posibilidades.

The relative superlative in adverbial use presents an action or manner of acting as the highest or the lowest within a group. It is formed with more or less and normally includes a reference to the set with articles, relatives or complements. In these structures, the adverb is part of an ordered comparison among several possibilities.

Con más y menos

Las construcciones con más y menos permiten expresar superlación adverbial relativa. El valor superlativo aparece cuando la comparación no se limita a dos elementos, sino que selecciona el grado extremo dentro de una serie. Según el contexto, estas mismas formas también pueden leerse como comparativas si el grupo no está bien definido.

Constructions with more and less allow expressing adverbial relative superlatives. The superlative value appears when the comparison is not limited to two elements but selects the extreme degree within a series. Depending on the context, these same forms can also be read as comparatives if the group is not well defined.
