Your city's taxis have just been upgraded — every driver has been trained to give each passenger one genuine, specific compliment before they arrive. Your driver has been thinking since you got in. You are nearly at your destination. He clears his throat. "I have to say," he begins, "you have a very calm way of looking out the window. It makes the whole ride feel peaceful." The car slows at a red light. He glances at you in the mirror and smiles a little. "I can tell you notice small things. That is a good skill. Not everyone does." Outside, people hurry across the street with bags and umbrellas. The rain has just started, tapping softly on the roof of the taxi. The driver seems nervous, but kind. He is still waiting to say one last thing before you pay and leave.
