Tense meaning
The Present Continuous describes actions that are happening now or around now. It can also describe temporary situations in the present. The focus is on actions in progress, not completed actions.

Basic formation
The Present Continuous is formed with the present tense of 'be' plus the base verb with -ing. The main verb takes -ing, and 'be' changes for the subject. This structure is used in statements, questions, and negatives with different word order.

-ing spelling
When adding -ing, most verbs simply add -ing to the base form. Verbs ending in -e usually drop the final -e before adding -ing. One-syllable verbs with a single vowel and a single final consonant usually double the consonant before -ing.

Statements
Affirmative statements use Subject + am/are/is + verb-ing. The order stays the same for all subjects, with 'be' agreeing with the subject. The -ing form does not change for subject or number.

Questions
Questions use am/are/is + Subject + verb-ing. The verb 'be' moves before the subject to form a yes-no question. For wh-questions, a question word comes before am/are/is.
