Your dance studio has just posted the roster for the end-of-year showcase. Your name is on it. You did not audition. You are not sure you have ever danced. You have three weeks. Your partner has already been in touch, and she has a vision. She sent one message at 7:12 a.m.: “Meet me at the studio after lunch. Wear something easy to move in. Do not panic.” That last part was not very helpful, because panic had already arrived and was sitting beside you at breakfast. When you checked the roster again, your name was still there, printed in black letters under the words “Opening Duo.” At noon, the studio was empty except for the sound of music coming from one room. Inside, your partner was stretching with the calm focus of someone who had been planning this for weeks. She looked up, smiled, and said, “Perfect. We have just enough time to make this work.” Then she handed you a pair of practice shoes and pointed to the mirror. “First,” she said, “let’s see what you can do.” Write what happens next.
