Los adverbios de lugar señalan dónde ocurre una acción, dónde se encuentra algo o hacia dónde se orienta un movimiento. Expresan proximidad, distancia o relación espacial con respecto al hablante, como ocurre también con la colocación de adverbios en Colocación de adverbios. Suelen modificar al verbo y, en algunos casos, a toda la oración para situar con precisión la escena.

Adverbs of place indicate where an action occurs, where something is located, or in which direction movement is oriented. They express proximity, distance, or spatial relation with respect to the speaker, as also occurs with the placement of adverbs in Placement of adverbs. They usually modify the verb and, in some cases, the entire sentence to situate the scene precisely.

ProximidadProximity

Aquí y acá indican cercanía al hablante, aunque acá es más frecuente en muchas zonas de Latinoamérica. Cerca expresa proximidad física o relativa y puede aparecer como adverbio o funcionar en construcciones con de. Muy cerca intensifica la cercanía y mantiene el valor adverbial.

Here and acá indicate proximity to the speaker, although acá is more common in many areas of Latin America. Near expresses physical or relative proximity and can appear as an adverb or function in constructions with de. Very near intensifies the closeness and maintains the adverbial value.

DistanciaDistance

Ahí señala una posición intermedia, mientras que allí y allá indican lejanía relativa respecto del hablante. Lejos expresa gran distancia y puede combinarse con de para precisar el punto de referencia. La elección depende de cómo se organiza el espacio en relación con quien habla.

There indicates an intermediate position, while allí and allá indicate relative distance from the speaker. Far expresses a great distance and can be combined with de to specify the reference point. The choice depends on how space is organized in relation to the speaker.

Encima y debajo expresan posición vertical, delante y detrás indican relación frontal o posterior, y dentro y fuera marcan interior y exterior. Estas relaciones describen la ubicación de un objeto o persona respecto de otro elemento y permiten ordenar el espacio con claridad. La elección de cada forma depende del punto de referencia que se tome en la frase.

Above and below express vertical position, in front of and behind indicate frontal or posterior relation, and inside and outside mark interior and exterior. These relations describe the location of an object or person relative to another element and allow space to be organized clearly. The choice of each form depends on the reference point taken in the sentence.

Los adverbios de lugar suelen ir detrás del verbo, aunque también pueden situarse al inicio de la oración para dar énfasis a la ubicación. En construcciones con de, como cerca de y lejos de, el adverbio mantiene su valor espacial y precisa el referente. En el uso coloquial de algunas regiones puede omitirse la preposición con lugares conocidos, como en estoy casa, aunque esta forma es regional y no general.

Adverbs of place usually go after the verb, although they can also appear at the beginning of the sentence to emphasize the location. In constructions with de, such as near and far from, the adverb maintains its spatial value and specifies the referent. In colloquial use in some regions, the preposition can be omitted with known places, as in estoy casa, though this form is regional and not general.
