The Spanish future tense is formed by adding the following endings to the infinitive form of the verb:
  • yo: -é
  • : -ás
  • él/ella/usted: -á
  • nosotros/nosotras: -emos
  • vosotros/vosotras: -éis
  • ellos/ellas/ustedes: -án
These endings are the same for -ar, -er, and -ir verbs.
For example:
  • hablar (to speak): hablaré, hablarás, hablará, hablaremos, hablaréis, hablarán
  • comer (to eat): comeré, comerás, comerá, comeremos, comeréis, comerán
  • vivir (to live): viviré, vivirás, vivirá, viviremos, viviréis, vivirán
The future tense can also express probability or conjecture about the present:
  • ¿Quién será? (I wonder who it is)
  • Estará en casa. (He/She is probably at home)
There are a few irregular verbs with stems you need to memorize, such as:
  • tener → tendr-
  • salir → saldr-
  • hacer → har-
  • decir → dir-
But they use the same future endings.
Try practicing by conjugating verbs and making predictions about the future!
