Getting Started

Go Loco uses the CEFR scale from A1 to C2. Start at the level that matches your honest estimate of where you are.

If you are starting from scratch, begin at A1. If you have studied before, start at the level where the Textbook material feels challenging. If you can read a B1 module comfortably but struggle to answer practice questions without hesitation, begin at B1.

When in doubt, start lower. The Textbook generates on demand, so working through a level you have mostly covered costs an hour and gives you a foundation to build on. Getting the level right matters more than getting started quickly.

A good session covers two things.

Input is the Textbook and Quick Practice. Read a module, understand a concept, answer practice questions on it. This builds the structure of the language.

Production is Voice Scenarios. This is where you use what you built. Production carries the most weight in your level estimate and is where fluency develops.

Most learners do plenty of input and delay production. Do not wait until you feel ready to speak or write. Producing imperfect language is the practice.

A reasonable first session covers all three steps.

Repeat this daily with different modules. Vary the production activity. Your level estimate will begin to reflect your ability within a few weeks of consistent sessions.

Twenty minutes a day builds more than two hours once a week. The language needs to stay active. If a session needs to be short, do the production activity first. A Voice Scenario does more to keep the language active than a Textbook module you are too tired to retain.
