What you can do without one, what signing in changes, and how to close one.
You do not need an account to use Go Loco, and that is a deliberate decision: the whole textbook is readable without signing in, in full, at every level, because the parts costing money to run are the conversation and the generation. What an account gives you is memory, because your level estimate, your streak, which modules you have finished, and the transcripts your grades are derived from all need somewhere to live.
Without one
You can read the whole textbook, answer a handful of questions on any module, and tap any target language word for a definition. What you cannot do is anything the app has to store or pay for, so talking to Loco, running a voice scenario, keeping a study plan and earning gems all need an account.
What signing in changes
Signing in turns the app from something you read into something that fits itself to you, and everything it keeps exists to make the teaching land better.
What starts working
Your level estimate starts accumulating evidence, so the modules generated for you arrive at the right difficulty and not a guessed one. Your streak starts counting, which sounds trivial and turns out to be the most effective thing in the app for getting people back on a bad day. Your scenario transcripts are kept, which is what makes a grade possible and what lets the app point you at the concepts you keep getting wrong. It also raises how many questions you may answer on a single module, from a handful to a hundred.
Signing in
Press Sign In anywhere in the app, because the button is in the navigation bar on every page and on any control that needs an account. You can sign in with Google, with Facebook, or with an email address and a password, where Sign Up With Password creates an account with an email address and Forgot Password sends a reset link. Wherever you were when you pressed Sign In, you are returned there once you are signed in, so a control that stopped you is the control you land back on.
Managing your account
Everything below is on your account page.
- Change Password appears for an account that has an email address. A Google or Facebook account has no password here to change.
- Mail Settings holds your contact email address and one Subscribed checkbox, which is the switch for every letter Go Loco sends. Turning it off stops all of them.
- Manage Subscription opens the billing portal when you have an active subscription. See Managing Your Subscription.
- Web App explains how to install Go Loco to your home screen or desktop, with instructions for your own device.
- Sign Out ends the session on this device.
Closing your account
Delete Account sits in the Danger Zone at the bottom of the account page, where you confirm by typing, the account is deleted, and you are signed out. This is permanent and it is not the same as cancelling, so if you only want to stop paying then Managing Your Subscription is what you want, because cancelling leaves everything intact.
