Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the questions people ask most, each one linking to the page that explains it properly.
Every answer below is a sentence or two, and every one of them links to the page carrying the reasoning.
Do I need an account to use Go Loco?
No, because you can read the whole textbook, answer a few questions on any module, and tap any word for a definition without one. An account is what saves your progress and opens scenarios and conversations with Loco, and Accounts covers it.
Is Go Loco free?
Yes, and the free tier does not expire. The textbook and the dictionary have no cap at all, while spoken conversation, typed turns, audio and generation are metered weekly, and Free And Pro has every figure.
What does Pro cost?
$12 a month or $120 a year, and it is the only paid plan.
Which languages can I learn?
Spanish and French taught in English, and English taught in Spanish or French. You can also generate a course in another language from the Other Languages page, and Courses And Languages covers both.
Can I read the app in my own language?
The interface is served in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese, and each falls back to English where a translation is missing.
Where do I start?
Read Your First Session, then pick a language, open a module, answer a few questions, and sign in when you are asked.
How does Go Loco know my level?
It measures your level from the work you have done, on the CEFR scale from A1 to C2, and it tells you how sure it is. Scenarios count for more than practice questions and spoken answers count for more than multiple choice, and Your Level explains why.
Why does my level say A1 when I am not a beginner?
Below a minimum amount of activity the estimate declines to answer, so it reports the bottom of the scale and says the data is insufficient, and running a scenario or two will move it. The level you claim when you build your study plan is what the app goes by until then.
Why did my second attempt earn no gems?
Gems pay for improvement as well as effort, so a repeat of something you already had right earns nothing and a scenario retry is compared against your own best previous attempt. Gems And Streaks has the full table.
I missed a day. Did I lose anything?
Your streak forgives a few missed days and nothing else is lost, because your plan does not expire and your gems do not decay.
Can I talk to Loco about a language I am not currently studying?
Yes, because one Loco spans every course you study and will tell you where two of your languages agree and where they part company.
Who writes the courses?
A language model writes them, the app checks every stage, and the content is translated before you see it, which How The Content Is Made describes in full.
The course is missing something I need. Can I add it?
Yes, because you can ask for a module, a quiz, a scenario, a set of vocabulary, or a whole course, which Generating Your Own Content covers.
Something in a lesson is wrong. What do I do?
Report it from the contact page or write to yo@golo.co, and a person reads it.
How do I cancel?
Manage Subscription on your account page opens the billing portal and you cancel from there, and your subscription runs to the end of the period you paid for with nothing you made deleted. Managing Your Subscription has the detail.
How do I delete my account?
Delete Account sits in the Danger Zone at the bottom of the account page, and it is permanent, which Your Data explains.
How do I stop the emails?
Turn off the Subscribed checkbox under Mail Settings on your account page, because that one switch covers every letter Go Loco sends.
