Talking To Loco
The monkey you can write to or speak to about anything, at any point, in any of your courses.
Loco is the assistant sitting behind the whole app, and talking to Loco is the surface most people use first, because it is the one with no shape you have to learn. Every reply comes back in the target language, corrects what you wrote as you go, and is pitched at the course you are on and roughly the level you are at.
One Loco across every course
There is one assistant, not one per course, so the course you opened the chat from is the one in front of Loco and every other course you study comes with it. That matters more than it sounds, because a learner studying Spanish and Portuguese can ask one assistant where the two agree and exactly where they will trip you up, and the parallel gets drawn without being asked for.
What it is good for
Ask Loco the things you would ask a teacher and would feel silly asking a search engine, because the answer is only useful when it accounts for your level and the language you already speak. Why a sentence you wrote is wrong, what the real difference between two words is, how to say something you do not yet have the words for, and whether a phrase sounds natural or like a textbook all land well.
What it can reach
Loco can reach into the rest of the app mid conversation. That means pulling up what a module teaches, searching the textbook by what a module covers rather than by its name, telling you where you stand and what is next, adding a concept to your study plan, writing a quiz on whatever just came up and rendering it in the thread, and keeping a bank of words you want to remember. Mentioning a gap is usually enough to have it queued before the reply has finished.
Why writing beats looking something up
Everything you write to Loco is corrected, and that is the entire reason to write it. Looking a word up puts it in front of you and asks nothing of you, while attempting the sentence and being corrected is language production, which is the activity moving you forward. The correction also arrives attached to something you were genuinely trying to say, which is the form of feedback people remember, and using the chat as a dictionary gets you perhaps a third of the value out of it.
Typing and speaking
A single conversation moves between typing and live audio without starting over, so you can write a question, read the answer, and then say that answer back out loud to check that you can.
The controls
The bar at the bottom holds Send, Speak and Live Mode: Send writes a typed turn, Speak dictates into the box that turn is sent from, and Live Mode opens a spoken connection where the answers come back out loud. A spoken session swaps Speak for Pause, because the microphone is already open, and Default Mode takes you back to typing. Dictation is a Pro feature.
Your plan changes without being asked
Mention in passing that you already know the subjunctive and it is skipped before the reply finishes, and admit a gap and the module is queued. Nothing asks you to confirm, because asking is dragging its feet, and what makes that safe is that every change is visible and reversible: your plan page shows exactly what the plan holds, and a change you did not want costs one press to undo.
What it will not do
Loco will not name your CEFR level until there is enough evidence to judge one, and under that bar the answer goes by what you have said about yourself rather than inventing a number.
Things it has no tool for
A module or a scenario is not something Loco can write, so an idea the catalog does not carry gets you the generation page, named and linked. Quiz questions never appear inside a reply either, because that would hand you the answers, so a quiz comes into the thread and you answer one question at a time. A whole module is never explained inline, because the textbook is where a correction is supposed to land, so you get a short explanation and the link.
What it says when asked
Asked whether it can reach another app, open a file, or read your calendar, the answer is a plain no.
Your conversations
Every chat is saved, the History control above the thread lists them, and each reopens where you left it.
How it is metered
A typed turn is charged whether you send it here or inside a scenario, and Free gives you seven a week across both, so heavy use of one leaves less of the other. Opening Live Mode is charged as a spoken opening, the same allowance a scenario spends, and reconnecting to a conversation already open costs nothing.
What it does not change
None of this gates what Loco can do, because a free account and a subscription meet exactly the same assistant, and one of them is counted. Free And Pro has the full picture, and Your Data covers what is kept from these conversations and why.
